Yesterday, my friend and I made a bet, and as the winner, she treated me out for dinner...

After hearing quite a bit about this place, I finally got to try The Original Pantry kitchen on Figueroa just north of Staples Center...

Wish I had a picture of the place but I forgot...I do have a picture of half of my country fried steak, with some really good sauce, gravy, dressing, whatever you wanna call it...probably the best country fried steak I've ever had, not to mention the waiter was extremely nice to us...

Gambling?

Aside from sports betting, I hadn't gambled or even set foot in a casino since March. After the bbq, my coworkers wanted to go to commerce casino...so with a bit of hesitation I went....

I had $39 cash in my pocket and I didn't wanna withdraw from the atm....I played $30 in bacarrat and came up with $85....Then with 5 of us, we started a new poker table, played for a while and lost about $10...we cashed out and on the way out, some coworkers wanted to learn bacarrat, so we sat down and played a bit...my coworker urged my other coworker to put down all her money, so I decided to do the same with what I had on the table...after that last hand, I left the casino with $157...

Casual gambling is fun, particularly when you win with friends.

Electricians Union

As part of work today, we went to the Electricians union for their annual bbq where we have the chance to visit their training facility in Commerce. A whole bunch of food!

My coworker came up with a thought during the bbq saying, "When we were in college, I bet we never expected to be sitting at an Electricians Union bbq."

Board of Public Works

Attended Board of Pubic Works meeting this morning at City Hall, doesn't the room look cooooool? There are five commissioners.

The Counter

My cousin was watching Oprah, and she had this feature of the top 10 burger places in America...and two of em were right here in our backyard...Father's Office, and

The Counter, which has easily become one of my favorites...located in Santa Monica, on Ocean Park, a few blocks west of Bundy.

Don't know if you can read the menu, but basically you choose all the stuff you want on your burger...

Mine was simple: 1/3 lb burger, hard boiled egg, gruyere cheese, tillamook cheddar, grilled onions with peppercorn steak sauce...

USA v. China 2nd half

So I suppose China got worn out from running the whole game.

All summer, Kobe's been deemed the defensive stopper, but what about Lebron's best Dikembe Mutombo impersonation with 3 demoralizing blocks...

Also impressive?...the asian version of Tony Parker, Liu Wei, why doesn't he put his name in the draft? I mean if Wang ZhiZhi lasted two years in the NBA, Liu Wei is sure to last at least three.

As a team, I don't know how confident I am in Team USA...they had flashes of very impressive basketball, maybeeee 5 minutes worth? They definitely have their spurts, but their strength of running and getting in the open court all stems from ball pressure, deflections, and steals. If a team decides to take care of the ball and not turn it over, Team USA's halfcourt offense looks like it could be rivaled by the Memphis Grizzlies...they all look confused. Luckily, Argentina lost to Lithuania who last week got killed by the US, so maybe they'll be in good shape anyway.

With the score now 87-54 with 5 minutes to go in the the 4th, I realize I should have taken the Team USA by 32 bet. I must say, it's very admirable to watch Yao Ming on the bench cheering on his team with intensity even though hold an insurmountable deficit.

USA v. China 1st half

Wow, tie game midway through the 2nd quarter but I can't tell if China is playing well or USA is just playing poorly, but I'm gonna give China credit on this one...Yao looks so aggressive playing, and a 3 to start the game?

Secondly, you know China plays well as a team when NBA reject Wang ZhiZhi looks impressive and China is probably plus 2 with him in the game....Sun Yue has been, well quiet, but he's okay I guess.

Looking at the faces of the Chinese team reminds me of playing basketball in Alhambra

Spain v. Greece

It's about halfway through the Spain v. Greece men's basketball game in the Olympics, and I've made the following quick and simple observations:

- Neither Greece nor Spain have looked impressive scoring a total of 64 points in the first half, and no it's not good defense. Everyone looks confused on offense, and once you slow down Jose Calderon, Spain can't do anything anymore.
- Greece has been overhyped, but Spanoulis still has some good moves. Yes they're a team, but they're not a good team anymore.
- Spain has barely made use of Pau Gasol so far, but Marc Gasol looks huge, and they definitely know how to use their muscle/bulk
- Rudy Fernandez has some skills, man, Portland's gonna be good next year.

- Team USA is favored 32 points over China tomorrow. I'm excited for this game to watch team USA dominate, but more importantly, I'm excited to see the Lakers second round draft pick from last year, newly acquired point guard, Sun Yue who will be playing for China!
