Keys to the series

I just have a few quick points about why the Nuggets, as good as they've played, are an easy matchup for the Lakers....and mostly it revolves around Denver's defensive inefficiencies.

- Against Houston, Kobe averaged 6 free throws a game, with high highest being 10 attempts in one game.....tonight, Kobe took 13 free throws.

- the Kobe defenders.....Shane Battier/Ron Artest vs. 6'5 Dahntay Jones/6'1 Anthony Carter? You gotta be kidding me

- 7 games against Houston, the point total between the two teams averaged 188 total points...the high was 209, and the Lakers hit 100 points only 3 times in 7 games. .......... Tonight, Lakers score 105, with the total at 208...

There's a lot of other details to this series, but this just sums it up. The Nuggets are a high scoring team, a very potent offense. But they can't stop the Lakers from scoring, the top scoring team in the league. When the Lakers went down in a game against Houston, the lane was clogged, and it was difficult to make up point deficits when they couldn't consistently score. Against the Nuggets, they can score whenever they need to.

The Lakers won tonight with Carmelo shooting a red hot 14-20 and Kenyon Martin flipping up ridiculous shots for 7-14.

Lakers in 5.

Kobe doin' work

I just finished watching the Kobe documentary titled "Kobe doin' Work", produced by Spike Lee. Spike Lee wanted to capture Kobe's intensity, his love and passion for the game- He definitely did that in this film.

It's always been reported how much Kobe studies the game, studies video, and really uses it to his advantage. This becomes easily apparent in the things that Kobe's microphone picks up during the course of the game. Based on tendencies of other players, he's able to advise his teammates on how to defend someone, which moves to anticipate and on offense, he knows how to keep the opponent off guard. Another impressive facet of Kobe's basketball IQ is his ability to see things on the court as the game progresses. By that I mean defensive schemes, and how to counter the opponents defense or vice versa.

One cool part, unrelated to basketball skill, is how he talks to his teammates in foreign languages, obviously to Pau Gasol in Spanish, then to Sasha in Italian (although he's Serbian, who's real name is Alexander), then to Ronny Turiaf in French, well not really but when Ronny made a dunk he goes "Ca va?, ca va?" which usually means how are you? but I guess he meant it in the sense of "yea wassup" haha...

Another memorable part of the documentary was Sasha talking to Kobe in a whinny little kid's voice in reference to the referees, "You got to tell them....they are pushin in the back"...

Anyway, a very good documentary. It's definitely not for everybody. I think the interest in this documentary will separate the Laker fans who think Kobe is good just because and those Laker fans who know why Kobe is so good. I'm often very critical of Kobe, but I appreciate his hard work and his approach to the game. This documentary separates plain Laker fans from the Laker fans who are basketball junkies.

Lamar Odom

Kobe's good, lots of people like Lebron...but my favorite player is Lamar Odom...

His versatility is incredible...a 6'11 player who can rebound and take the ball the length of the court for a layup...he's too fast for the bigs, and too big for the small forwards.

This morning, Phil Jackson informed Odom he would be starting in place of Bynum tonight so what did Odom do? He walked about two miles to Staples Center from his downtown loft...he said he wanted to focus on this game, that it was just like when he was a kid in New York walking around looking for a game of basketball...

Good luck Lamar...

Update: Near the end of the third quarter, Lamar's box score is average at best, but, the Lakers are +16 when he's in the game, second only to Kobe's +17...
