Cooking Bacon Cheddar Mashed Potatoes

For our Thanksgiving dinner tonight, I made Bacon Cheddar Mashed Potatoes. I woke up this morning and here's what I did...

First, I peeled the potatoes (Picture 1). Then I cut the potatoes in little cubes so they'd boil more efficiently (Picture 2/3). I added water and salt and brought it to a boil (Picture 4). After draining the water, I added heavy cream, butter, and salt and pepper, and mashed the potatoes (Picture 5). On the side, I heated bacon to a crisp in a skillet (Picture 6). Then I added cheese, chives, sour cream, and the bacon to the potatoes (Picture 7). I mixed it all together, and got....

Bacon Cheddar Mashed Potatoes.

No Defense

Last night, the Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 116-109 in LA to bring their record to 8-1.

8-1 sounds impressive, but allowing 109 points to any team is unacceptable, especially when this is the same Bulls team that was held to only 74 points tonight in a 42 point loss to the Blazers *shakes head*

Housewarming in Ontario

Went to supervisor's house in Ontario for a sort of housewarming. We grilled some carne asada and put some hot links and onions on some skewers. We also had a huge ass poker game afterwards with 12 people, which I would eventually lose in. Fun night though.

2nd again?

Had another night of poker with the coworkers. First game had 9 players, and again, I came in second and lost to the person who beat me last poker game, so twice she's won first, and twice I've gotten killed at the end...

There was a second game after that, although I was only able to finish third in that.

Ice Pan

So after hiking and eating at Daphne's, we got some ice cream at Ice Pan where they make the ice cream in front of you...

First it starts off as some liquid stuff, then it becomes sorta flaky, then finally it becomes real ice cream!

Solstice Canyon

So we went on another morning hike, this time to Solstice Canyon in Malibu. Of all our hikes, this was probably the most tiring with the steep paths. It was not too long distance wise, just really steep. I guess it depends which side you go up on, and apparently we picked the one that would get me winded.

We took the Rising Sun Trail to the top, then it went down to the Roberts ranch house which burned down in 1982. There was also a little waterfall next to the remains of the house.

Soul Food

So my friend had a craving for soul food, and I was taken to this place in Crenshaw off Leimert Blvd called Babe and Ricky's Inn not too far from the Crenshaw mall...

We got in, they didn't accept cash, and so I walked a block to the liquor store...on the way, there's guys just chillen in their cars with the music blasting...

10 mins

My polling place is at the Rec. Center here at Park La Brea, and the picture's pretty dark, but as you can see, such a short line! It only took me like 3 mins in line and the rest of the time was mine to vote! and to think I even bought Wienerschnietzel on the way to eat while I waited in the anticipated line.

Pub Crawl

After work on Friday, I joined some of my coworkers for a "Pub Crawl" in downtown. Someone mapped out the entire route, which bars to go to, which bus or metro rail to take.



We went to some nicer bars, some good food places, some sketchy bars, and we even got to watch the Dia de los Muertos parade at Olvera St. while having some huge ass margaritas. I'd say the highlight would have to be the last one we went to, The Far Bar in Little Tokyo where a couple of us took this shot lit on fire.
