Cinque Terre (Day 5) - Vernazza, Manarola, and Riomaggiore

We booked a train in advance from Roma Termini station to Vernazza in Cinque Terre. Check out the Roma Termini train station! And on top of that, they even had good food there! The trains are very easy and convenient. Even buying tickets is easy. The only tricky part is trying to figure out which direction your seat is facing.

After a quick 4 hour train ride, we arrived in Vernazza in the afternoon, with our AirBnB host waiting for us at the train station. Vernazza is a small town, and in fact, it only takes maybe three pictures to capture the street from the train station to the harbor.

Turn at the end of this picture, and you'll find yourself looking out at the harbor below.

Just before the harbor, there's a little corridor that leads to our rental.
Following is the path to get there...

And here we are...

One of the coolest places we stayed. It's a 3 story apartment.
Middle floor is the bedroom...

Downstairs the bathroom, looks like we're right into the hillside...

On the top floor is a living room with stairs to the terrace...

View from our terrace.

After enjoying our terrace view, we walked a few more steps up to the Castle.

From the Castle, you can see our terrace (with the blue chairs)...

Okay enough with our apartment.

We grabbed a quick snack from a shop with all sorts of fried foods. You pay by the size of the cone, and picked what you like such as calamari or fried cod. Actually, pretty good!

Below is Vernazza's main square, right at the harbor. To the right of this picture is Gelateria Il Porticciolo which was definitely in the top 3 of my favorite gelaterias. We grabbed some gelato before getting some tickets for the boat which visits all 5 towns. I believe this boat only runs in the summer, but it's a cool method of transportation for seeing the towns from all angles.

On the way to Manorola...

The train tracks below...

Below is Corniglia, but our boat didn't stop there.

Manarola

Didn't do much, just kind of walked around town, and took in the views.

Cinque Terre hillsides are almost always made up on vineyards.

On the way to Riomaggiore...

Riomaggiore

If you like walking up steep hills, then Riomaggiore is the town for you.

From Riomaggiore, we took the train back to Vernazza.

Had dinner at Trattoria Sandro in Vernazza. It was decent.

Not a lot of commentary to go with Cinque Terre. Visiting Cinque Terre, you just kind of take in the beautiful views and what each town has to offer.

So, with that...how about some more random pictures of Vernazza...

What an awesome AirBNB place! I love the staircases and the nestled-in downstairs bathroom!
